[June Edition] What You've Missed: Blonde Redhead + SOHN

Blonde Redhead has been in the music biz for about 10 years, while SOHN debuted himself in 2012. "Will the crowd be any different, will they show some support for this SOHN dude?" Well, truth is, the crowd was just as stimulated by waves of mind-blowing beats. It was truly a night to remember. For those of you who didn't know or couldn't make it, you certainly have missed a great show in your life (yes you did, ha!).

The first performing artist was SOHN and he did bring out the professional side of him to hype us all up. There was an air of uncanniness about the way he dressed and perform. A gray winter hat under a hood of the same color--gave me an impression of how a modern preacher of music would clad himself (If only music were nothing but a religion)--were all we had for the whole show. On top of it were a great voice, coupled with the dazzling light effects and bombarding sound system. Together they, or rather he, gave us something more than just a show/gig, it was something beyond, a sensation I'd say, and that is not an understatement.

You can't imagine how impressive and breath-taking to be standing in the front row, experiencing the heart-shaking sound waves and the flashing-while-sweeping cones of light. Sohn brought us tracks from his debut album, Tremors, which was only just released three months earlier.

Bloodflows
I first heard of his name was when his song Bloodflows was featured as free music of the week on the iTunes store, which naturally led me to his YouTube page and got myself amazed by the simplistic and artistic ambiance. I guarantee you listening to his album with your dr. dre headset can't even be compared to a tenth of the magnitude of the blasting sound system right at the venue.

When SOHN had delivered a big show for us all, and still had us under his charm. The next act--Blonde Redhead was already at the backstage, preparing to relay the torch of music from SOHN.

Blonde Redhead--a sophisticated rock band composed of Kazu Makino (vocals, rhythm guitar) and twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace (drums/vocals and lead guitar, respectively)--has been on the scene for about a decade now.

They surely knew their craft and got right into the biz by bringing the audience a few tracks off their new album, then moved swiftly to the good ol' songs. We only have to stand straight and relax to have a great night. You can see the power of the female vocal was both absorbing and unleashing, thanks to the hurrahing and body-moving crowd.

The female vocal was like an anime character who could sing and play guitar, which was aurally fresh and visually chic. It was not an easy task to put a label on their music. It truly is one of a kind out there. Also, their passion for music is appreciated. Their attention to every musical detail was noticeable on stage and that was just remarkable, even the audience might not be able to tell the difference. They would check to see if they had the right notes before starting the performance. Such behavior from an experienced band like Blonde Redhead is admirable and should be respected.

The genuine enjoyment in music shown on their faces and that had seeped through the audience as well. Even if you weren't a groupie, after this show, you might have to give it a second thought. Because, well, their songs are just really appealing to the ear. It was as if you were led by them to another world where no music had set foot there before.

Oh là là. How I wish you were there to see it for yourself.

What real music stands for?

Society is variable, this is inevitable fact within the universe----Dominance of music would be always changed, just like people beyond Asia love Korean pop music and started to ignore those international pop music.

I love Korean pop music as hell, just like being poisoned or like being tempted by handsome guys. I talked, I traveled, I spent my time in those Korean stuff rather than those in foreign countries. It seems that I had been being drugged by those K-pop deeply in a coma, to those original and real pop music.

"Come on, Kayla. They are just all the same, why are you so into them?" My school friend from Australia said after realizing i have some crazy mind in those pop music. She is not the only one who said those things to me, my elder sister did say something similar to me likes "You got some poison gas into your mind." and "I have crashed into addictive fruits." Yet, I still listen to K-pop music.

My passion on the foreign music simply lost, nope, not my passion, is the problem in terms of myself--I was getting lost on my choice to music. What is real music?------I didn't know, I have no idea about that, until I know a band named Amaranthe.

Few days ago, I went to Hong Kong Records. I found quite noticeable CDs, "Amaranthe Special Edition" with a high cost (about$150) and so many people are in the band, 6 people. The design of the album is quite dark and evanescence-like. So I have decided that, if the songs of this album are not too sharp or out of my genre as well as they are fresh and novelty, I would buy and regard this as my treasure.

Undoubtedly, They are fresh and novelty, suit for my ears and they wake up my nervous system---the most important things, they relieve those poison gas which infected me. I find my way to my choice again.

Their songs are special, i cannot believe 3 singers in this Finnish band. Female & Male Vocal and screams(i.e. you would find screams vocal from the metal-core band like "silpknot"). They combine metal-core and pop music together, to make their own music. And that is awesome. What I think is, this may be the definition of real music.

Real music does not depend on how well you sing or dance, but your passion, participation and your way of thinking on making music, creating a piece to make people happy, to convey your feeling, which is quite near the definition of modern visual arts. The songs, are all created by the band members. Other than this band, in the US No Doubt(GWEN STEFANI) writing "Don't Speak", Britney Spears writing "Everytime", ex-member of Evanescence Ben Moody writing "Nobody's Home" and "My Immortal" , Ne-Yo writing "Take a Bow", even Adele, from the UK, acted as a songwriter for "Rolling in the deep" and "Someone like you"---- why some of these songs become classic and prominent globally? You have to learn that there are still many bands in the US, Britain etc.

From all this, I realize that pop music should be liked those in foreign countries, rather than those in Korea. K-Pop is not bad, they are awesome, they can sing and dance well. But they lack of passion and way of thinking on music, they just do their performance well, yet most of them do less on making music. Therefore, they are all the same.

To me, to me, I consider K-Pop as "just for fun", "relieve my pressure", "for my own exitement", on the other hands, Foreign music is more than that.

Justin

Timberlake?

New Beyonce 4 U

This is nothing like anything she or anyone had done before. It's a new SOUND, new VOICE, and a new BEYONCE.

The Album '4'
Why is it the album named '4'? There is for certain a strong reason behind it, a very strong one: Beyonce's birthday September 4, her mother's birthday, January 4, and Jay-Z's birthday December 4, and it's the 4th anniversary of Beyonce and Jay-Z's wedding. Four 4s, coincidence?

Minna Sora No Shita makes me think of "What's under my sky?"

Japanese pop music never make me feel bored. Their specific singing style with beautiful directing in their music videos always gain the respect from Chinese especially Hong Kong people(alongside Korean pop). Through this passage, I would like to recommend and tell my feeling towards a song named "Minna Sora No Shita", which is composed and sung by Ayaka, a famous Japanese female singer who has retired owing to her hyperthyroidism.

Background

Minna Sora No Shita, in English, means "Under Everyone's Sky". The idea of this song is for inspiring people who have no confidence or get lost.

Rating: 9.5/10

Feeling

I love the idea of this song, encouraging people not to abandon themselves. Also, it consists of something relating to environment in the music, the piano is smooth and touching, her elegant can bring you to your imaginary forest, along with Ayaka's comfortable singing voice, you lose your breathe to the forest and enjoy her authority to the environment.

This is incredible song and impressed me a lot. If you are full of stress or sorrow, you may attempt to listen this song. This song may help you to relax, maybe sometimes, it may aid you to find the answer you want.

Moreover, this song makes me think of "What's under my sky?". "Art? Music? Movie?Or other thing?" I am just thinking---What is my determination towards the future life?

Michael Buble 的everything

I haven't met you yet 以及everything.

(By the way, 我覺得Mike是一個給人歡樂的好男人。

SHE'S THE MAN X THE VERONICAS

Wow, it's been 5 years since this movie (i.e. SHE'S THE MAN) went to the silver screen in 2006. It was indeed a fun movie to watch even though I knew it was based on Twelfth Nights by William Shakespeare. This post is a little bit personal and might not be interesting enough to get your mind off from whatever you're doing. But, if you're just wandering around on web, and don't know how to spend your valuable time yet, you're welcome to read THIS paragraph and go.

Justin Bieber

The Black Star Tour - Live in Hong Kong 2011

Looks like Avril Lavigne really loves her Asia fans. Since her last promotional tour in support of The Best Damn Thing in Hong Kong, it's been nearly 4 years that her Hong Kong fans haven't seen her. Until recently she came to Hong Kong to promote her latest album entitled Goodbye Lullaby. At the event, she also announced that she'd tour in Hong Kong in May 21, 2011.

Circus
Circus 封面

Britney Spears
大碟取名為FEMME FATALE(台灣譯名:蛇蠍美人)
